Learning from Space - Space Traditions
The International Space Station is permanently manned by astronauts, who come from different countries. Each one of them has his or her own beliefs and traditions.
In this lesson we will try to understand what holidays and traditions have existed in the Space Station over the years ever since it began operations, with emphasis on upholding Jewish traditions.
The main tradition we will be focusing on is the lighting of candles and, through that we will understand how fire behaves under conditions of microgravity and how it differs from the way fire behaves here on Earth. A lesson plan is attached to this lesson, which you will be able to distribute in class concurrent with the space broadcast to delve deeper into the subject.
The lesson has been submitted as part of the Learning from Space contest by Michal Ivgi and the Baba Da NGO. A special thanks to Tarb Elad.
