This piece offers viewers a glimpse into a time capsule that contains a microcosm, preserving a memory or a sample of primordial elements: the Big Bang, prehistoric algae, organic bodies and minerals oscillating between the ocean depths and the vastness of space. Set against a backdrop of black skies, a portrait of the artist emerges, like the illuminated side of the moon — the side facing the sun. The moon, which symbolizes the cyclical nature of life and connects the oceans to the sky, is embodied here as a female figure, a witness observing the universe.Cohen creates space installations that explore community stories, myths and representations of nature. Her autobiographical 2018 work “Facing the Sun” tells her personal story through an encounter with nature; and her 2024 book, “Herbarius” features collages and poems born from an exploration of subterranean depths. Similarly, in “Cosmic Terrarium,” she arranges existing materials into a new configuration, continuing to observe the tension between light and darkness in the universe, and exploring how personal testimonies can be embedded in an existential question.
