“Because sometimes you have to look inward to look outward.” — James Turrell. Alternative Space is an exhibition that offers an escape into a mystical and abstract world that transcends conventional ideas. It presents a unique perspective on space exploration, moving away from the typical focus on science and technology. Featuring video art and sculptures, the exhibition showcases five artists’ diverse approaches to themes of time, distance, and inner worlds, and reflects the mystery of outer space. James Turrell’s renowned Skyspaces are architectural structures with an aperture in the roof or ceiling, each designed to create a unique experience of natural light that shifts throughout the day. In them, the artist enclosed the infinite sky — which belongs to everyone — in a frame, creating an intimate and personal experience of it. Recognition that both our inner and outer worlds are boundless is the foundation for this exhibition, which blends science and the humanities. These spaces, like the exhibition as a whole, invite viewers to reflect on the interplay of sky, light and human perception, often evoking a meditative or spiritual experience. They reveal outer space as both a physical and spiritual domain, where art becomes a medium for contemplation and the exploration of new perspectives. Participating artists: Ohad Fishof, Eitan Ben Moshe, Alon Segal, Yanai Toister and Nimrod Astarhan.
