Since the dawn of time, humans have looked up and wondered: What is this sky? What twinkles so far above us? What else exists beyond what we know (or think we know)? This vast and intricate concept of “space” has captivated us since the beginning. The drive to explore, to know, has propelled humanity forward for countless years. In 2022, history was made when the Ax-1 space mission successfully delivered astronauts, including Israeli astronaut Eytan Stibbe, to the International Space Station. The excitement was palpable. Like his fellow crew members, Stibbe was involved in numerous research and development efforts, with a daily schedule as packed as anyone’s back on Earth. Included in that schedule, as part of the Rakia mission, were several art projects — the result of extensive collaborations with local artists. This initiative, embodying Rakia’s vision of expanding the mission’s reach and making space accessible to all, helped inspire a special evening held during Israeli Space Week, on January 29, 2025, in partnership with the Eretz Israel Museum. While the week’s events primarily focus on technological and scientific content, we chose to highlight culture, inviting attendees to explore the concept of space through imaginative and creative interpretations, rather than equations and data. Guided by a vision of “space for all,” Rakia, a public benefit company, is dedicated to advancing and developing all aspects of the Israeli space sector. To achieve this, Rakia works with academic institutions nationwide, organizes art exhibitions, runs visitor centers and develops accessible educational resources. For the deep thinkers — be they creatives or philosophers — Rakia provides a platform for profound reflection on the meaning of space exploration and humanity’s place in the cosmos.
